Rust Hotfix 4 (October 7, 2026): Livestock Vendor Prices, Biofuel Power and Milk Fixes

2026-10-07
A cow and sheep in a pen next to a Biofuel Generator in Rust

Facepunch put out Hotfix 4 for Rust today, October 7. It is an optional client and server update, so you don't have to install it right away to keep playing. It mostly cleans up the Livestock update from October 1.

Changes

  • Wild livestock is worth less. Animals you catch in the wild now sell for much less at the livestock vendor.
  • Biofuel Generator uses less power. It now only draws power while it is actively processing ingredients.
  • Food crafting menu. The food crafting option moved further down the list.

Fixes

  • The ocean now draws properly when you are below deck on the cargo ship.
  • The animal fence and gate can now be researched.
  • Setting server.foodspoiling 0 no longer stops players from skimming milk.
  • The milk skim timer no longer resets when you stack milk. You can now stack milk if the skim timers are 1 minute apart.
  • Blue orbs no longer show up when you shear sheep.
  • Shadows on Rustige eggs are fixed.
  • Several graphical problems with the Rust Render Pipeline are fixed.

What it means for you

  • If you farm livestock, wild animals now pay less at the vendor.
  • If you use a Biofuel Generator, it should cost you less power when it is idle.
  • If you make milk and cream, stacking milk is safer now, and servers that turn food spoiling off can still skim milk.
  • If you play on a server, check that your host has the update. It is optional, so some servers may wait.
